Maggie: We had a great summer storm this afternoon, thunder, lightning, heavy rain and even hail. Maggie is looking suspiciously at the sky here.
Elisabeth: I've not even sure why she is looking a little grumpy, perhaps it was her ice cube needed a wash?

Today was hot, the girls spent the morning naked, in the paddling pool. They enjoyed cool drinks and juicy fruit, watermelon and home grown apple-peaches as Miss Elisabeth has renamed nectarines. This afternoon we danced in the summer rain, the girls loved it, jumping and splashing in the puddles. After we dried them off, their hair became unbelievably curly, and we ate a dinner of sweetcorn and beans listening to the happy frogs through the open bifold doors.

Maggie: It was a long week without Rob, but we got through it together. The girls were so good really, but I guess they felt like they had to share their parent (me) for the week more than normal. So this weekend Maggie has been holding my arm tightly and needing lots of cuddles. We are happy to oblige.
Elisabeth: their first taste of blackberries, the seasons are definitely changing. They both stuffed a handful into their mouths and ended up with purple lips and chins!

Maggie: She tucked herself underneath the cover of the window seat this evening, baby doll bottle in hand. Yesterday we visited the beach as it was so warm. The girls were wary at first, especially of all the other people there. Maggie watched them all in her serious way. At first, even though it was only 10 metres away from our towel, they wanted us to walk with them to the waters edge. Eventually they relaxed and we watched as they ran back and forth. Maggie was intrigued by a boy building a castle at the edge of the water. She kept walking up to him, then quickly turning away and running back to us. I was watching her face and you could see her almost talking to herself, convincing herself to be brave and go back and try to help. Eventually she started building her own castle next to him.
Elisabeth: This smile made us think of Maggie. She was probably about to squirt me with the squirty water bottle! Elisabeth loves the water at the beach, asking to be skimmed across the surface, kicking and splashing. If the water temperature had been warmer we would have stayed in longer.

We have had a quiet weekend. Soaking up time together. Rob is off on a week long field trip tomorrow. Nobody is looking forward to it. Bring on Friday!

Maggie: Just listening to her say "bye" to her sister and blow kisses. Caught here in a thoughtful moment.
Elisabeth: A cheeky smile under our table. Added to her "I like it" sentence, was a very emphatic "I love it" when she realised we were eating sausages for tea!
